AMM 496 Issues in Apparel Retail Management

The primary objective of this course was to address common problems in apparel retail store operations. This course helped to provide a foundation for the work I will be going into in apparel retail management. I learned to think critically by analyzing apparel retail store operations and their processes. I learned how to solve problems that are related to apparel retail store environments, human resource management, and inventory management. I also learned presentation and discussion skills that will help me in my future career.

When conducting the assignment for cross-cultural behaviors I learned how to analyze and compare 3-4 countries on the cross- cultural dimensions. Retailers must understand cross-cultural differences before entering into new markets. We learned the Hofstede Research Model to understand how different cultures change from one another. This gave me knowledge onto whether a retailer should decide in going global and the different ways in which a retailer can go global into new retail markets with different entry modes. Understanding how to evaluate cultural differences skilled me on how international retail strategies and operations worked, in order for retailers to gain success and avoid risk.

I learned how to conduct analysis of past retail cases and how to format an understanding on what to avoid or learn from this experience. In this course I gained the knowledge of how to research a company’s background, mission, organization, goals, key competitors, and retail strategies to understand their competitive advantages. Understanding the barriers in which a company can face in going global is important for the businesses success. This knowledge gives me the understanding of how to identify a company’s future risks and success and how to present this to my future superiors.
